Adirondacks Trip (Day 3)

October 11, 2009

This morning we woke up to a heavy dusting of snow. It was quite a shock as we are not used to this.

We never get snow in North Carolina till maybe February. We went downstairs to have breakfast before venturing out for the day. They tell us don’t worry about the weather as it changes every 5 minutes, which we actually found to be true. Pretty odd to have snow one minute then the sun is out the next. Starting out today we rode towards High Falls Gorge. It is located at the base of Whiteface Mountain where the famous AuSable River flows with a breathtaking 700 foot long gorge and four waterfalls. It was really cold so we passed on without seeing it. We decided to drive to Vermont, a place we have never been before. We took a rather expensive ferry across Lake Champlain. There were many beautiful house built along the cliffs of the Lake. We stopped at a few local antique places and finished our day in Burlington for dinner before driving back to Saranac Lake. Burlington, Vermont is known as the birthplace of the legendary Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. Must be a nice place. :0)
